Abstract

Since the late 20th century and into the 21st century, the way we interact as individuals and as a society has been transformed by what is called the Information Age. The exponential growth in the use of virtual social networks is a global phenomenon. Specifically, Facebook is the most popular social media platform among young people in Mexico. This social network has become a reference point where young people express their satisfactions, displeasures, concerns, and preferences—in other words, their way of perceiving and experiencing the world. Religion is one of the most controversial topics on Facebook. In order to understand the religious preferences of young people on this social network, I conducted a survey on Facebook, which I applied to undergraduate students at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco. The results illustrate the process of secularization taking place in Mexico’s Eden.
