Abstract

The garbology founded by Professor Rathje was not limited to the University of Arizona, its students and collaborators, or the country that saw it born. In Mexico, there was close collaboration with the Garbage Project team that resulted in the development of research that replicated their methodologies and in the training of professionals and academics in said approaches. In this article, a balance of the scientific publications of the last twenty years is made to determine to what extent, these works on waste could be considered heirs of the research agenda proposed by the Garbage Project, in which areas of work the basic nucleus is identified of concerns and where Mexican garbology is evolving. The results show the validity of the research agenda envisioned by Professor Rathje as well as its dynamism and evolution based on the fruitful link established with the culture of consumption and discarding.
