The objective of this essay is to identify the causes and significance of police violence. To this end, we will refer to research addressing the topic of human violence in general and police violence in particular. We will also review the considerations upheld by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in various rulings on the power and violence deployed by the State through its police forces. This will allow us to conclude what has motivated police forces in Latin America to carry out detestable actions against countless individuals and social groups, with the acquiescence of the State. For a proper understanding of this phenomenon, we believe it appropriate to explain what biology, sociology, and psychology have said on the subject, seeking to generate interdisciplinary work. Therefore, we will use a qualitative approach to arrive at a conclusion consistent with what has been presented throughout the work, based on the different sciences presented here.Published
