Abstract

Thinking about the Cutzamala System involves confronting a complex and multidimensional problematic situation. The Cutzamala basin constitutes a water system for the production, storage, conduction, purification, and distribution of fresh water. The System provides an essential service for the population while exhibiting alarming levels of social and environmental degradation, which manifest in forms of conflict and violence. This article aims to contribute a reflection on this highly complex issue. It argues that, to move towards a potential solution, it is necessary to first transform the conception of water by breaking with the paradigms that currently sustain the System. To achieve this objective, a discussion is conducted based on the analysis of data from secondary sources and two bibliographic databases constructed from the newspaper La Jornada.
